Temple Sinai Sisterhood

The last weeks have been very busy for Sisterhood. Our Game Night was a big success as was the Arthur Schwartz Food Maven event. In both cases, we had a large turnout which included many guests from the larger Jewish community beyond Temple Sinai. Thanks to all who made these fundraising events so enjoyable and successful. Word is that Arthur Schwartz thinks we have a pretty good crew of bakers at Temple Sinai!

And as if we did not have enough going on in April, we also hosted a fashion show at Coldwater Creek in the Stamford Mall on April 27. Thanks to Gail Karlitz for suggesting and coordinating this delightful program. Participants enjoyed the fashions, the refreshments, and observing their friends attempt to break into modeling. The advice was that we should keep our day jobs. As we look forward to May, we are pleased to be supporting Mitzvah day by participating in the Kids in Crisis program, chaired by Gen Weingrad, and the Person to Person program, chaired by Michelle Ebstein. Also, we are gearing up for the May 21 Senior Luncheon. Mona Kubli is managing this event.

Our organization has decided to make a significant dollar pledge toward the purchase of a major appliance for the kitchen renovation, which we expect will be a part of the overall building upgrade. This money will be put in a restricted Sisterhood Kitchen Fund to be used when this ambitious project gets off the ground.

We hope you enjoyed a very Happy Passover.

What is Sisterhood
Sisterhood is the organization of the women of the Congregation who band together in friendship for programs to benefit the Temple and the community, for social activities, for study, and, above all, for the growth of the individual so that each may find an opportunity to fulfill her potential as a person and as a Jewish woman. Sisterhood provides an arena for the individual to expand and grow in a Jewish atmosphere.
Make Time for Tzedakah: Charity
A portion of your dues goes directly to YES Fund (Youth, Education and Special Projects) of Women of Reform Judaism, our parent organization, which helps to support rabbinical students, high school and college youth programs, special projects in Israel, and the Jewish Braille Institute.
Our Sisterhood social action efforts include financial support of our Religious School, Mitzvah Day, community wide Senior Citizens' luncheons, St. Luke’s Lifeworks, and the Council of Churches.
Make Time for Tefillah: Prayer…
Sisterhood will continue to expand its focus on spirituality, Dine and Learn with the Rabbi, Second Night Seder and our annual Sisterhood Shabbat service.
Make Time for Community:
As always, Sisterhood offers many ways to return to the Temple, Jewish life, and friendships with one another. Whether it is our annual Progressive Dinner, Passover Tasteria, Chanukah Family Dinner (with Brotherhood), Second Night Passover Seder, Book Group, or our guest speakers, we provide opportunities for education, enrichment and personal growth.
Fund raising events include Borders Holiday Gift-Wrapping, Temple Sinai Gift Shop, and Mother’s Day Tea.

To sing and to dance,
to touch and to play,
to laugh and to cry
to listen and to share
to make sense out of confusion,
to grow and to ignite,
to weave and to mend,
to renew and to touch life.
