Mitzvah Corps
"Mitzvot provide us with spiritual road signs, leading us closer to God and the divine aspect within us which we call Tzelem Elohim. In Jewish tradition we believe that all human beings have the potential to do wonderful things. We hope that by performing mitzvot our good tendencies will overcome our evil inclination. Then we will be strengthened spiritually, moving ever closer to God and fulfilling God's desire for human potential." Making a Difference, By Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson and Gila Gevirtz.
This program meets monthly throughout the year from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday mornings. The purpose of Mitzvah Corps is to provide our 8th and 9th grade students another on-ramp to involvement at Temple Sinai and in the Jewish community. Students will work with the Youth Advisor on various Mitzvah Projects at Temple Sinai and throughout the Stamford community doing the mitzvah of Tikkun Olam - repairing the world. Tikkun Olam is the mitzvah of social action. It refers to all actions that benefit our society, and it includes all work that helps our local community as well as the deeds that aid the planet as a whole. The focus of this program is "learning and taking action.." Projects can range from Midnight Runs to Habitat to Humanity, to clothing drives, to raising money for various causes.
